Well as you can see we made it back alive! 3 Pioneer Teams took part in the Kathmandu Adventure race on Saturday in the Royal National Park, Sydney. In pouring rain and the middle of Winter, I’m not too sure what we were thinking as we stood under marquees shivering along with 400 participants waiting for the race to start! And it’s a worry when you are longingly looking at a staircase up a mountain just because you want to start warming up! The course was long, wet, muddy and cold. You start to panic when participants are sitting in the middle of a bike leg with 3 shock blankets around them waiting for an ambulance. And it’s not that the race was physically gruelling, it was mentally tough. Jenna was over it in the first hour, but continued for another 3 before the cold and the bike leg got too much and her and Nic got in the car and left! That was after Nic rolled his ankle 4 times, fell over once, and tripped in three puddles!! Kim-Maree and I fought the whole way especially on the Kayak leg where we did 3 complete circles whilst we tried to learn how to Kayak, and for the last leg, who in the hell knows how to row a god damn 1950′s row boat! I think we would have preferred to get back in the kayak! But we finished the race, it took us 5 hours and 40 mins, but we got all checkpoints (alot of teams didn’t) and made it out alive! And we didn’t come last! A big congrats to Erin and Mel, who managed to actually like each other the whole race, and came in 10 min before us! Not only can these girls Kayak, but somehow they know how to row???
Bring on the Teva Race! Hopefully this one isn’t nearly all on water or under it!!!
